At Automata, we're on a mission to transform how scientists work by making automation accessible to every lab in the world. We believe that by giving labs the power to automate, we can unlock discoveries that will shape the future of life sciences—from diagnostics and drug discovery to synthetic biology.

But we’re more than just a company disrupting the industry—we're a team of innovators, problem-solvers, and creators passionate about empowering scientists. Our LINQ platform combines hardware and software to streamline workflows, making lab automation fast, flexible, and affordable. This means our customers can focus on groundbreaking research, while we take care of the rest.

Why Work at Automata?

  • Impact: Your work will directly contribute to advancements in science and medicine, supporting labs around the globe as they push boundaries in research and innovation.
  • Innovation: You’ll be part of a team solving complex problems (seriously, no one else has figured out how to do this yet), using cutting-edge technology (we have robots).
  • Growth: We invest in our people. Whether through hands-on experience, professional development, or collaborative projects, you’ll grow both professionally and personally.
  • Community: Join a diverse, passionate team that values collaboration (golf on a Thursday, Soccer once a month, movie nights whenever we fancy it).

We're looking for a network and infrastructure engineer to join our Boston team.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will be maintaining and deploying our customer network infrastructure, systems infrastructure, and compute resources. You’ll contribute to company-wide network support and remote assistance for our EMEA teams out of hours, providing follow-the-sun support. You’ll also engage with our clients' reciprocal teams to aid in our installs and instil confidence in our product.

About the team

Our engineers are more than just technically skilled; they're driven by curiosity and a growth mindset. They find immense joy in seeing the software power the robots and the hardware bench, transporting plates from instrument to instrument. They understand the profound impact of their work on the life sciences industry, and this fuels their passion.

Our technology stack operates from our customers' environments with complex enterprise-level networking setups and security. The business is scaling globally, and the need to operate in a compliant manner is crucial in maintaining trust with our customers.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Deploying and architecting enterprise network hardware utilising the Juniper product stack

  • Implementing positive Cybersecurity practices using industry insight and up-to-date threat understanding

  • Driving positive client interactions by driving compliance and standards forward and providing peace of mind to client InfoSec teams

  • Collaborate effectively with wider domain and technical specialists in enabling design, delivery and operations of the LINQ platform.

  • Contribute to wider business operations and challenges by engaging with the wider tech community and our providers.

  • Enable the business by managing the company's software and hardware portfolio, provisioning appropriate device management, i.e., MDM, and introducing necessary controls for budgetary and governance purposes.

What it takes:

  • Strong working knowledge of networking, including JunOS and other providers, to aid in our installations at client sites

  • Positive industry standard drive with a desire to implement systems that comply with controls and compliance requirements.

  • Excellent communication skills to clearly communicate our needs with clients and how to navigate complex cybersecurity requirements

  • Effective collaborator and problem solver in enabling customer network, sometimes on-site and in-person, with experience in troubleshooting within these environments.

  • Exceptional stakeholder relationship management, instilling customer confidence in Automata.

  • Strong understanding of Infrastructure including MDM and device management, server infrastructure, storage and application structures.
