About the Company:
Capi helps businesses in Africa pay their international suppliers. We’ve raised over $18m from Creandum, Y Combinator, General Catalyst, Firstminute, Janngo, Kima Ventures, and some great angels from Revolut, Checkout, Stripe, Onfido, and Remitly.
Capi was founded by Mitch Riley, Scott Liddle, and Tom Watson. Mitch and Scott were COO/CFO/GC and CRO/CMO at Taptap Send, a remittance unicorn, and have spent two decades between them working in emerging markets. Tom is a third-time founder having founded Hubble and P4SD.
Role Overview:
You will be part of our growing team in West Africa at a fast-growing fintech. We’re on a mission to transform how $670 billion in cross-border business payments are made each year in Africa. This role will drive everything from acquiring new customers and understanding their needs, to forming new partnerships, liaising with regulators, winning over banks, and shaping the user experience to delight customers. In short, this role will ensure that Capi Money is #1 in Mali, Francophone West Africa and beyond. It is a chance to be the regional leader of a globally-minded, high-performance company on a mission — solving a real-world issue.
Key Responsibilities:
Acquire new users in Mali and rest of the region — and build a performing sales team
Implement strategies for retaining customers and increasing how much they send through Capi
Drive revenue growth
Conceive, negotiate, structure, and operationalise new partnerships for customer acquisition
Manage and experiment across acquisition channels, including agents, sub-agents, distributors, affiliate schemes, resellers, and white-label arrangements
Act as voice of Mali customers within Capi and translate needs back into product improvements
Contribute to regulatory, legal, and banking set-up in Mali
Contribute to diversifying sources of XOF-related FX, including through innovative deal structures
Be a thought-partner in developing Capi’s growth playbook
Role-model company culture
Requirements:
Fluent in French + English (both required)
Previous experience as a commercial GM, owning a product or P&L, or managing a large team
“No task too small” mindset
Previous experience at early-stage VC-backed start-up
Experience acquiring business customers
You care about our mission and believe the current situation facing African businesses is unfair
Hungry for high pace, rapid growth, broad exposure, and autonomy
Bonus points for high proficiency in: analytics, creative bank partnerships, b2b acquisition motion — or other unusual skill / interest
Additional Information:
This is a full-time position with competitive salary, share options, and benefits
Reporting to: Head of Growth
This role is based in Bamako (remotely, as we do not have an office there), and may require travel of 1 week, sometimes 2 weeks, per month — to other countries in the region, or to London / Paris / Marseille for team co-location
