About the Company:

Capi helps businesses in Africa pay their international suppliers. We’ve raised over $18m from Creandum, Y Combinator, General Catalyst, Firstminute, Janngo, Kima Ventures, and some great angels from Revolut, Checkout, Stripe, Onfido, and Remitly.

Capi was founded by Mitch Riley, Scott Liddle, and Tom Watson. Mitch and Scott were COO/CFO/GC and CRO/CMO at Taptap Send, a remittance unicorn, and have spent two decades between them working in emerging markets. Tom is a third-time founder having founded Hubble and P4SD.

About the role

You will join our 10-person team at a fast-growing seed-stage fintech. We’re on a mission to transform how $670 billion in cross-border business payments are made each year in Africa.

Reporting to the Founding BizOps Manager, this role will sit at the center of our operations function, managing customer payments, troubleshooting problems with payments, analysing data, improving our payment systems, managing relationships with our banks, and building the operational engine that delights customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage customer payments, including initiating payments, ensuring we always have sufficient liquidity in the right places, ensuring money is collected from customers on time, ensuring we have the right documentation to support each transaction, and responding to queries from our banks

  • Troubleshoot and solve difficult payment issues, working directly with our customers and banks to resolve them

  • Analyse performance against payments KPIs, identify systems and process improvements, and implement them

  • Track and analyse competitors’ prices

  • Manage our bank partnerships, including applications to new banks

  • Work on one-off projects, e.g. china payments optimisation, API integrations with bank partners, implementing new payments technologies, etc.

Must-haves

  • Fluent in French

  • Fluent in English

  • 2-5 years’ work experience

  • Highly organised

Nice-to-haves

  • “No task too small” mindset

  • Previous experience at early-stage VC-backed start-up, or at top-tier consultancy, etc.

  • Previous experience working in or with emerging markets

  • You care about our mission and believe the current situation facing African businesses is unfair

  • Hungry for high pace, rapid growth, broad exposure, and autonomy

  • Bonus points for high proficiency in: SQL, Wolof, book-keeping — or other unusual skill / interest

  • This is a hybrid position; we are in the office 3 days per week (either in London or Paris)
