Your mission
Our engineering teams solve our biggest customer problems by choosing how (and why) we build our products and by understanding how these products will support our customers towards homeownership.
As an Engineering Manager at Gen H, your main goal is to nurture your team to create the best products and put more people into homes.
Your role
Day to day, your role as Engineering Manager will involve a combination of:
  • Providing technical mentoring: Ensure your team follows our engineering best practices, cooperate in architectural discussions, and prioritise infrastructural work if necessary.
  • Business alignment: Together with your product manager, develop team priorities based on the company’s business strategy.
  • Timely and reliable delivery: Ensure the team communicates plans outwards, set expectations regarding time and scope for the projects, and support your team in meeting their commitments.
  • Performance management: Align your team with their responsibilities and goals, provide regular support and use data to assess your team’s performance.
  • Team growth: Provide growth opportunities to your team, facilitate regular retrospective sessions, and cultivate a culture of trust and improvement.
  • Hiring: Proactively identify gaps in the team, Influence the interview process, interview candidates, provide feedback and share accountability to ensure we make the right hires for Gen H.
About you
We look for an Engineering Manager with great product understanding that:
  • Have management experience: We look for Engineering Managers with at least one year's experience in line management in teams of at least three engineers.
  • Have senior experience as a software developer: You were - and occasionally still are hands-on with good full-stack programming skills.
  • Empathise deeply with customers: We measure our success by how many people we bring into homes. If you're committed to solving customer problems, then do let us know!
  • Are cooperative: If you're a team player and have great interpersonal skills, then we'd love to hear from you.
  • Value ownership: You're keen to overcome obstacles and take responsibility to make things happen.
  • Are open to different technologies and tasks: Our engineering team is open to diverse coding backgrounds if you're willing to play with Ruby on Rails, React and TypeScript in a full-stack capacity.

Logistics

The application process consists of a recruiter screening call, a 30 minute call with our head of engineering, a tech interview (system design and product discussion, no coding) and a values interview (both 1hr 30m via video), and a 30 minute Q&A with members of the management team.
