The role

The Fleet Operations Shift Lead is accountable for supervising and directing a team of drivers and safety operators, overseeing on-road experimentation and development during their shift. This role involves managing temporary staff from a staffing agency, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and productivity standards. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, exceptional communication, and organizational skills, capable of making prompt decisions in a dynamic environment.

Key responsibilities:

Shift Supervision and Team Leadership

  • Manage day-to-day operations within the shift, including work scheduling, task assignment, and performance monitoring of temporary and full time drivers
  • Provide direct line management for drivers employed through a staffing agency, maintaining regular face-to-face contact to offer guidance and support
  • Identify and resolve operational challenges to minimize disruptions, considering the unique dynamics of managing temporary workers
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the shift, facilitating effective communication across all levels

Compliance and Personnel Management

  • Prepare and submit comprehensive reports on shift activities, including incident reports and deviations from standard operating procedures pertaining to temporary staff
  • Collaborate with the staffing agency to address any personnel issues or concerns related to the temporary workforce
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of temporary staff performance and compliance with company policies
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and legal regulations, particularly those relevant to temporary staffing arrangements

Performance Optimization and Quality Assurance

  • Partner closely with the staffing agency to ensure proper onboarding, training, and performance management of temporary drivers
  • Continuously drive operational efficiency and effectiveness by implementing process improvements and best practices tailored to managing temporary workers
  • Monitor and uphold the quality of on-road testing to meet required standards, addressing any issues and collaborating with the Quality Assurance team

About you

In order to set you up for success as a Shift Lead at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.

Essential

  • Proven experience as a team coordinator or similar role, ideally involving supervision of temporary or contingent workers
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage and motivate temporary staff, ensuring clarity in tasks and expectations
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic operational environment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, especially when addressing challenges unique to managing temporary workers
  • Full clean US driving license with at least 8 years of driving experience in the US and no blameworthy insurance claims in the past three years
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace or Microsoft Office suite for documentation and communication purposes
  • Strong driving skills, knowledge, and a willingness to continue developing expertise in fleet operations and safety standards

Desirable

  • Previous experience specifically in supervising or managing temporary or contract workers within a fleet or logistics environment
  • Familiarity with relevant employment regulations and best practices related to temporary staffing
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a positive and inclusive work environment for a diverse team of temporary workers
  • Experience in implementing training and development programs for temporary staff to enhance performance and safety
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with staffing agencies and internal stakeholders to optimize temporary workforce management

This is a full-time role based in our office in California. This role will be a dedicated PM Shift role with alternating schedules:

Tuesday to Saturday

Sunday to Thursday

14:30 and 23:30
